Rebecca Letts
I'm Bec, a registered midwife working in the public hospital system, and a childbirth educator at MAMA.
What inspired you to work at MAMA?
Working predominantly in a busy public hospital setting, I was really craving ways to spend more meaningful time with families. MAMA is such a warm environment, both for birthing families and the staff that support them. MAMA's holistic, evidence-based approach is one of a kind!
What are you passionate about at MAMA?
Providing evidence-based, holistic and individualised care for families. In my time working as a midwife, I have truly come to believe in the idea that knowledge is power. If a family is equipped with the information to help them make choices, I think it can shape their entire pregnancy, birth and postnatal journey. Every birthing person has the right to feel safe and empowered when making decisions about their body and their baby, and I love supporting people to step into their power in this space!
What are your favourite things about your role?
It's amazing to watch couples start off classes nervous and full of questions, and leave with big smiles and information to help them feel in control of their experiences! It's really special to see people begin to believe in their capabilities and help provide them with some tools to guide them during this period. It's also just really fun to have a laugh and connect with families in a calm and supportive environment.
Where would we find you outside of MAMA?
Brunch! If it involves a coffee and a sweet treat, I'm there. I can sit at a cafe and chat with my friends for hours at a time. And if I'm not eating a sweet treat in a cafe, you'll probably find me baking my own at home with some good music or a snappy podcast on in the background. I'm a big fan of a live performance (music and/or theatre), and a slow, homey weekend.
