MAMA
Midwifery Care
Our midwives have been lucky enough to care for over 2500 families since MAMA’s doors opened. Private midwifery is an investment in the physical, mental and emotional well-being of yourself and your baby. A recent Cochrane review showed that both the outcomes & experiences for pregnant parents and their babies are much improved with a midwifery continuity model of care.
Our team (with over 150 years of combined experience) facilitate long appointments, continuity and 24/7 triage support so that you can always get the midwifery care that you deserve from a team who knows you.
Care Options
We have created these packages to optimise the Medicare rebates available to clients & to provide the relationship-based care that we know fulfils families and midwives alike.
Homebirth Package
The package begins with a midwife matching, where we hear what you are looking for in a practitioner & if there are any midwives that you resonate with from reading our team biographies. Most people connect with their matched midwife, but we warmly welcome meet-and-greets with our other team members if needed to ensure the fit feels right for you.
All pregnancy appointments in our clinic are bulk billed, so you’re able to spend unlimited time with your midwife at no additional charge. This ensures that you can deepen your relationship with your primary midwife and build a strong connection with the second midwife who will be present at your birth. We also include a self-paced breastfeeding course led by our lactation consultant to prepare for breastfeeding, which has lifetime access so you can revisit topics when your baby arrives.
Birth care is tailored to your needs and provided by trusted midwives who know what is important to you & your family, which helps the hormones of labour to flow freely. Our midwives will stay with you for hours after your birth, until you are usually ready to welcome some sleep.
Four postnatal visits in your home are included for the first week (or more for an additional fee per visit), where your midwife will support you with feeding your baby and recovery. Unlimited clinic appointments are then available up to 8 weeks, where your midwife will guide you through early parenthood. We also include a birth debrief with an experienced counsellor so you can process and reflect on your birth during your postnatal care.
Our clinic is a safe place where you can enjoy spending time with your baby out of your house while still being surrounded by familiar faces and meeting other new parents in the area.
Hospital Birth Package
This package is similar to our homebirth option, but for those who have chosen to birth in hospital.
While you have appointments with your hospital team, we continue to offer unlimited pregnancy appointments in our clinic. Our longer appointments enable you to build connections with your midwife, receive education and ask as many questions as you wish. We include a self-paced breastfeeding course led by our lactation consultant to prepare for breastfeeding, which has lifetime access so you can revisit topics when your baby arrives.
Early labour care is tailored to your needs and provided by your midwife who knows what is important to you & your family. Your midwife can support you in early labour at home, guide you to know when to transfer to hospital & will attend the hospital with you as a support midwife. Our midwives have chosen to remain not ‘credentialled’ in hospitals, so that they remain fully independent and employed by you. They will support you to ensure that you feel safe, heard and respected while your hospital team provides clinical care.
Postnatally, you also receive four visits in your home during the first week (or more for an additional fee per visit). Unlimited clinic appointments are then available up to 8 weeks, where your midwife will guide you through early parenthood. We also include a birth debrief with an experienced counsellor so you can process and reflect on your birth.
Our clinic remains a safe place where you can enjoy spending time with your baby out of your house while still being surrounded by familiar faces and meeting other new parents in the area.
Early Pregnancy Package
For those who are considering private midwifery care and would like to experience before committing, or those who are waiting for their booking appointment in the hospital system but would still like to be supported in their first trimester.
The first trimester is a time when parents usually feel that they need reassurance & education from a knowledgeable clinician in a warm setting.
Our midwives will provide early pregnancy education, such as healthy eating & caring for yourself while navigating pregnancy symptoms. There is plenty of time in your appointment to discuss tests that are available to you such as common blood tests, ultrasounds or further genetic testing.
Our midwives have undergone additional training & registration to be able to prescribe any necessary medications, order desired ultrasounds and blood tests. Two further appointments are organised to discuss results from ordered tests, care models and plan for ongoing care with MAMA or referral to a hospital-based provider.
