Continuity of care models have less reported rates of birth trauma, obstetric violence and mistreatment, with the lowest rates seen in women who hired a privately practicing midwife.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes. In Victoria, outcomes for mothers and babies are comparable across all models of care. The difference is in your experience. With private midwifery, you have fewer interventions, less trauma, and the continuity of a midwife who knows you and your family.

  • If you’re planning a home birth and transfer becomes necessary, your MAMA midwife stays by your side. She continues to advocate for you, provide comfort measures, and support your choices, ensuring continuity even in a hospital setting.

  • Absolutely. Our midwives are experienced in supporting VBAC families. We work with you to create a safe, evidence-based plan and provide the emotional support you need to feel confident in your pregnancy and birth.

  • Many of your antenatal and postnatal visits attract a Medicare rebate, helping to make private midwifery more accessible. We’ll explain the costs clearly at your first appointment, so there are no surprises along the way.

  • The earlier, the better. Most families book in during the first trimester to maximise continuity. But it’s never too late. We’ll meet you where you are in your journey and make sure you feel supported.
