Ellie Madigan
What is your name and role at MAMA?
Hi I’m Ellie and I am so thrilled to be a midwife at MAMA
What inspired you to work at MAMA?
Since the first time I attended a private midwifery appointment as a student midwife, I knew that my career goal would be to work in the same holistic care model. I loved the long appointment times, the flexibility, the gentleness and the relationship between midwife and woman/family. I am so grateful to be able to care for women in this care model.
I have had the privilege of supporting women with complex clinical and social needs while working at a tertiary level hospital, which reinforced my belief that all women deserve good quality midwifery care. During my time working in regional hospitals in NSW and QLD I become deeply passionate about advocating for, and empowering women in their pregnancies. My experience working as an IVF/Fertility Midwife in London, UK, opened my eyes to the world of infertility and assisted reproductive technology. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with women and their families facing fertility challenges, miscarriage, and grief, while providing support and holding space for the anxiety and uncertainty that often accompany a positive test after such a journey.
What are you passionate about at MAMA?
MAMA allows midwifery to be practiced in a way that midwifery should be practiced. I am passionate about providing woman-centred, individualised care and that is exactly what MAMA is all about. Not only that, but it is so special to be able to provide true holistic care through offering women many different allied health services at the MAMA clinic.
I believe that there is always something to learn as a midwife, which is why I am currently studying a Masters of Midwifery to achieve medication endorsement.
What are your favourite things about your role?
My most favourite thing about being a midwife is seeing the light in the eyes of empowered parents. Especially with breastfeeding! What an honour it is to be a part of this journey, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.
Where would we find you outside of MAMA?
On my days off, its highly likely you’ll find me with my gorgeous dog Bernie and my partner, probably in a café enjoying a couple of lattes or walking the beach. When I’m at home, I enjoy cooking, knitting, reading, studying or hanging out with my family and friends.
