Lindsey Stirling
What's your name and role at MAMA?
Hi there, my name’s Lindsey and I work as a midwife at MAMA. I am also a mother to a beautiful daughter and bring decades of experience as an integrative clinical nutritionist. I am a certified lactation consultant, a pre and perinatal psychology educator, and a student of somatic psychotherapy, and integrative perinatal dynamics.
What inspired you to work at MAMA?
I joined the amazing team at MAMA in 2023 after spending 6 months exploring and working as a midwife in different parts of India. Rather than return to my private practice (what I was doing prior to India), I yearned to have more support around me and to belong to a team of midwives, whom I would be philosophically aligned. An opening to join MAMA came up, it felt right, and I am so glad I followed my intuition! MAMA’s midwifery group practice has provided a way to work sustainably due to the extensive support and connection with my mid-sisters and the allied health and admin teams. So grateful to be a part of such a wonderful and thriving practice.
What are you passionate about at MAMA?
I began my studies in midwifery back in 2012. Prior to that, I was living and working in Boulder, Colorado, in private practice as an integrative nutritionist, teaching food as medicine community classes, and supporting post-partum mamas by preparing nourishing foods for them. I experienced a strong calling to pursue midwifery, despite having concerns entering the medicalised paradigm that is the culture of our current midwifery system, so I knew that cultivating a truly holistic approach to midwifery would be essential for me to remain inspired and passionate. I love that MAMA honours each midwife’s uniqueness and celebrates the wide range of experience, gifts, and wisdom that we each bring to our group practice.
What are your favourite things about your role?
There are so many things I love about my work. I love the intimacy and trust that grows with the women and families I support. I love the miracle and beauty of emerging mothers, fathers, and families with the blessing of new life. I love holding space and witnessing the deep transformative shifts that often unfold throughout a pregnancy, during birth, and during the tender postpartum time. I love to inspire my clients to be present and notice what is going on in their bodies, to really connect and talk and interact with their growing baby, and to develop a relationship with them, well before they arrive earthside. It is a Holy privilege to witness the emergence of new life, to be present to the struggles and the triumphs that come with the territory, and to see a woman access her power and find her voice, and a father cry at the sight of his new baby. I could go on!
Where would we find you outside of MAMA?
Playing my bansuri flute, walking amongst the trees, alchemy dancing or playing in my kitchen making all manner of delightful and nourishing foods.
