Demand for our services always outweighs supply. If you are the right person for our team, now is the right time to contact us.

MAMA Graduate mentee program 2026

Applications for the 2026 MAMA mentee program will open on Monday 2nd June, 2025.
More information will be available here on that date.

Please only consider applying for this graduate year if you are passionate about midwifery and intend on pursuing a career in full scope private midwifery practice. This mentee program is not just a year; it is a supportive mentorship that will see you through to becoming an endorsed primary midwife- which takes a number of years (currently at least three years full time).

We are looking for graduates who:

  • are passionate about informed choice

  • want to work to their full scope (prescribing, suturing, continuity of care)

  • understand the ebbs and flows of on-call work, and foresee this can fit in with their life

Please also understand that MAMA provides homebirth services, and there is currently still no insurance for birth at home with private midwives. MAMA holds PI insurance that covers antenatal and postnatal care. This is likely not to change until at least December 2026, which you need to understand prior to applying for a graduate mentorship at MAMA. You can read more about the history of PI insurance here https://www.homebirthaustralia.org/professional-indemnity-insurance.html

*Please note you will not be required to apply through PMCV for this position. Please apply for any other graduate programs you are interested in; MAMA will announce the successful applicants prior to PMCV crossmatch. For any queries Contact kelly@mamabirth.au

Want to become a MAMA midwife?

Are you beyond your Grad year? Our mentorship program continues to support midwives to become endorsed primary midwives, and welcomes the experienced midwives into our team who are the right fit. If you think this might be you, read on below!

This is not a job ad.

It’s a shout-out to midwives whose calling is the life-changing power of leading birthing people through pregnancy, birth and beyond.

That first cradle is a unique journey full of powerful emotions whether first or fifth born, home or hospital born, natural or assisted. Some come to us fresh with questions, others filled with previous trauma. All need your love, all need your leadership, all need your belief in them and their bodies.

MAMA midwives prepare and lead birthing people and their supports through the most significant day of their lives – the birth of their child. MAMA Services was established in 2011 by Jan Ireland and Kelly Langford. MAMA is Melbourne’s first holistic midwifery centre, providing pregnancy care, education and support for Melbourne’s birthing people and their families. The centre has a large and dedicated allied health team including specialised services such as paediatrics and lactation. MAMA midwives provide antenatal and postnatal care, as well as shared care & birth support at hospital and homebirth.

About you:

  • Love birth

  • Thrive taking responsibility

  • Determined and confident working autonomously

  • Preferably with caseload experience +/- endorsement

About MAMA:

Working across the full scope of practice in private midwifery can be one of the most rewarding and satisfying careers. The role will have easy days and hard days just like the births you lead. Birthing requires on-call and unpredictable schedules so private practice might not be for you.

As part of a team, MAMA can provide support and a better balance than as a sole practitioner. You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside some of the most experienced midwives in Melbourne. We also offer in-house education, training opportunities and progression pathways.

If you dream of being a private midwife with team support, we would love to get to know you. Kelly is one of our founders and if you have been inspired and are interested, please send your resume and a cover letter telling us about YOU via email; kelly@mamabirth.au
