Internal Pelvic Release Work

Internal Pelvic Release Work (IPRW) is a holistic approach that focuses on relieving tension in the pelvic area, enhancing pelvic floor function, and promoting overall well-being. This method combines gentle yet deliberate internal release techniques with external bodywork, recognising the interconnectedness of the body.

By addressing both soft tissues and ligaments that support the bladder, bowel, and reproductive organs, IPRW aims to create space and comfort within the soft tissues of the pelvis commonly referred to as the ‘soft pelvis’ as opposed to the bony pelvis, helping you reconnect with your body.

Internal Pelvic Release Work at MAMA

  • The pelvis holds many of the experiences of life. Pregnancy, birth, surgery, injury, posture, stress and trauma can all influence how the tissues of the pelvis respond and organise themselves over time.

Sometimes the body adapts by tightening or guarding. Even when the original reason has passed, these patterns of holding can remain, affecting comfort, movement, and a sense of ease in the body.

Internal Pelvic Release Work (IPRW) is a gentle, consent-based form of bodywork that supports the soft tissues of the pelvis — including muscles, ligaments, fascia and connective tissue — alongside the nervous system. Rather than forcing change, the work invites the body to gradually soften patterns of tension and find more space and responsiveness.

People may choose this work for many reasons, including:

    • Preparing for labour and birth, to encourage relaxation and space in the soft pelvis

    • Supporting healing and reconnection after childbirth

    • Seeking insight into why a previous vaginal birth was difficult or not possible

    • Living with pelvic pain, painful or absent sex, painful periods, or deep hip discomfort

    • Navigating pelvic floor concerns such as prolapse, incontinence, or an overactive pelvic floor

    • Working with scar tissue from surgery or birth

    • Exploring how past experiences, injury or trauma may still be held in the body

    • Deepening awareness and connection with pelvic health

Sessions are unhurried and guided by consent throughout. Every person’s body and story is different, so the work is always adapted to what feels appropriate and manageable for you.

A typical two-hour session may include:

    • Time to talk about your history, experiences and what has brought you here

    • Whole-body observation of posture, movement and pelvic alignment

    • Gentle external bodywork to support grounding and prepare the pelvis

    • Clear, informed consent before any internal work is considered

    • Slow, respectful internal pelvic release work (usually via the posterior vaginal wall), supporting tissues to soften and reorganise

    • Space to reflect on what your body revealed during the session

    • Personalised guidance or exercises to support integration and ongoing pelvic health

There is no fixed pathway. For some people, one session is enough. Others choose to return over time as part of their ongoing pelvic care.

  • Internal Pelvic Release Work (2 Hours)

(Offered to pregnant and non-pregnant people)

Internal pelvic release is a gentle, consent-based form of bodywork that supports the soft tissues of the pelvis — muscles, ligaments, connective tissue and fascia — alongside the nervous system.

Life leaves its imprint on these tissues. Pregnancy, birth, surgery, injury, posture, stress and trauma can all influence how the pelvis holds itself. Sometimes the body adapts by tightening or guarding, and those patterns can persist long after the original event has passed.

Internal pelvic release involves slow, intentional internal touch (usually via the posterior vaginal wall), combined with breath, grounding and external bodywork. Rather than forcing change, the work invites tissues to soften, reorganise and find more ease — at their own pace.

This work is always optional, carefully paced, and guided by consent throughout.

  • External Pelvic Alignment and balancing

(Offered to pregnant and non-pregnant people)

External pelvic alignment and balancing offers hands-on bodywork focused on posture, pelvic balance and fascial support, without internal touch.

This work is informed by my background in anatomy, physiology and movement, and may support:

    • Pelvic, hip or lower-back discomfort

    • Postural strain and asymmetry

    • A sense of imbalance or ongoing holding through the pelvis

    • Grounding and reconnection with the body

For some people, this work is enough on its own. For others, it can be a gentle entry point into deeper body-based care.

    Pregnancy bodywork

Pregnancy places increasing physical and emotional demands on the body. Pregnancy bodywork focuses on supporting comfort, mobility, alignment and nervous system regulation as the body adapts and changes.

Drawing on my background in midwifery and movement-based work, this may support:

    • Pelvic and whole-body comfort

    • Postural balance and ease of movement

    • Reduction in areas of physical strain

    • Nervous system settling and grounding during pregnancy

This work does not aim to control birth outcomes. Instead, it supports the body to feel safer, more resourced and more connected as pregnancy progresses.

    Birth debriefing and listening

(Offered to pregnant and non-pregnant people)

Birth debriefing is a contained, trauma-aware listening space for people who want to speak about their birth or perinatal experiences — whether those experiences were recent or many years ago.

As a midwife working clinically with women experiencing complex trauma and birth trauma, I see how often people carry unanswered questions, unresolved emotions, or a sense that their story has never been fully heard.

Birth debriefing is not about analysing what went “wrong,” assigning blame, or rewriting the experience. It is about:

    • Being listened to without judgement or agenda

    • Making sense of what happened at your own pace

    • Naming emotions that may not have had space at the time

    • Supporting nervous system settling through being heard and understood

These sessions may be offered as a standalone listening space, or woven alongside body-based work where appropriate. There is no expectation that you know what you want to talk about before you arrive — we begin where you are.

    1.5hr appt $150

    2hr appt $190
