Libby (she/her), Registered Midwife offering Internal Pelvic Release

What inspired you initially to work as a role?

I have been working for the last two years with women, birthing people and families that have experienced complications, unexpected events and trauma within their pregnancy and birthing journey. This often results in physical and psychological symptoms that have the potential to leave lasting effects on a person's enjoyment of life. I started to become interested in birth trauma prevention - was there a way that we could work towards decreasing the severity of preventable birth trauma? A few of my colleagues had completed Fiona Hallinan's Internal Pelvic Release mentorship and as a result of their reviews I signed up! I learnt so much! Women and birthing people are given such a unique opportunity to gain access to the internal muscles of the pelvis via the vagina, and similar to all areas of the body, it can be a place where we hold tension. With gentle hands and intention, using the vagina as the point of entry, tension can be identified and the muscles of the pelvis can then be invited to release and thus creating space and comfort. Women and birthing people are educated and given autonomy to better understand their bodies and how to make the most of the space that they have. In doing this, women and birth givers are more likely to have a more positive outlook of their birth experience. Through doing this mentorship I was able to understand that internal pelvic release could do so much more than assist in decreasing a person's perception of birth trauma, but it can also help those that experience painful sex, birth injuries, birth preparation and menopause.

What is one thing you are passionate about as a role

Education! Knowledge is power, and the more we know about our bodies (especially a part of our bodies that many have been taught to feel shame or embarrassment about) the more we can understand and use it to its full potential.

What are some of your favourite things about your role?

Being able to offer the opportunity for someone to be listened to, seen and validated for their experiences, intentions and fears.... AND Getting follow up texts from clients!

When you’re not working, where would we find you, what would you be doing and who with?

You will find me in the chicken yard! We have a big backyard with chickens, ducks and a big veggie garden. I love spending time out there fixing things, digging up worms and shooing the hens out of the veggies! Much to my own detriment, I neglect all other chores.  As a family, we love spending the weekends going on a big bike ride to the various local playgrounds, anything that will tire out the endless energy of my 2,4 and 6 year olds! m description
