Tess Wagner

Tess (She/her) – Childbirth educator at MAMA and Associate Midwife Manager within the public maternity hospital setting.

What inspired you to work at Mama?

I have always had a strong belief in the power of education. I feel that I have now come to a point in my midwifery career where I can share my knowledge and support families to broaden their perspective of pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Since having my own daughter, I have developed a deeper understanding of the maternity care setting from being both a provider and a consumer and feel empowered by sharing what I know. Knowledge is power and it is so rewarding seeing families come through this education program with a greater insight and ability to advocate for themselves.

What are your favourite things about our role?

Seeing the progression from the first session to the last! I absolutely love when families ask questions and get involved in the sessions and when people feel comfortable to share personal stories and connect with others in the group. It’s a beautiful way to connect with community.

Where would we find you outside of Mama?

Spending quality family time with my incredible husband, Wil and our energetic and sweet toddler, Maisie. We are often out and about as a family enjoying everything our beautiful city has to offer! You’ll also catch us at live music venues supporting Wil’s band along with other fantastic local acts.
