How We Support Hospital Births
At MAMA, we believe every family deserves continuity of care, whether you plan to birth at home or in hospital. Many of our clients choose a hospital setting—and we’re here to make sure you feel safe, supported, and respected throughout the journey.
Your Midwife, By Your Side
When you book with MAMA for hospital birth support, your hospital team (or private obstetrician) remains your primary carer. But your MAMA midwife is there to walk alongside you—providing continuity, advocacy, and reassurance from pregnancy right through to your baby’s first weeks.
Most often, your midwife will:
Meet you at home in early labour, helping you settle, breathe, and decide when it’s the right time to transfer.
Travel with you to the hospital, staying with you as a familiar, trusted presence.
Continue visiting you regularly in the first days and weeks after your baby arrives, so you feel held and cared for as you adjust to parenthood.
This consistent support is what sets MAMA apart: the same caring faces from pregnancy to postpartum.
Shared Care with Hospitals
For eligible families, we can offer official “shared care” arrangements with hospitals such as Monash Medical Centre, Royal Women’s, and Sunshine (Joan Kirner). Even if your chosen hospital doesn’t have a shared care pathway, you can still book additional MAMA visits for continuity and reassurance.
Why Continuity Matters in Hospital Settings
Hospital birth can sometimes feel overwhelming, with short appointments, lots of rules, and new faces at every turn. Families often tell us they worry about being “just another patient.” With MAMA, that changes.
Your midwife knows your story, respects your wishes, and helps protect your birth environment even in a medical setting. Studies show continuity of care reduces interventions, birth trauma, and the likelihood of feeling ignored or coerced.
Your Birth, Your Choices
Whether you dream of a low-intervention hospital birth, want support navigating induction or caesarean, or simply need someone in your corner, our midwives are there for you.
We help you:
Create a birth plan that reflects your values.
Stay calm and confident, even if things don’t go to plan.
Feel heard and respected every step of the way.
After the Birth
Hospital care often ends when you go home, but MAMA care continues. For the first week, your midwife usually visits you daily—checking on your recovery, supporting breastfeeding, and making sure you and your baby are thriving. You’ll also have ongoing clinic visits and a six-week check that covers both physical and emotional wellbeing.
If hospital birth feels right for you, we’ll make sure it’s still your story—calm, confident, and supported.
